Micador History
Arriving in Australia after the war, my grandfather went door to door, selling the beautiful greeting cards that he had brought with him from friends in Europe. People loved them and his small business grew. Then in 1952, on the strength of a handshake, he borrowed $500 from a bank and began importing European fine art materials to sell in Australia. He continued selling door to door until demand grew too much.

My grandfather’s name was MIChael A. DORtimer. In 1952, Micador was born.

Today I’m proud to announce the future of our wonderful past. I’m proud to introduce Micador Group. Bringing you our very own Micador and Roymac brands, Micador Group also provides Australia with a select group of creative brands that complement the values we hold so strongly.

Micador Group, forged from more than 50 years of inspiring history, gives you products for life. A range of products you can grow with, from the age of three to 103. A range of products that will never ignore the history they represent. A range of products my grandfather would be proud of.

Our vision is to cause creativity – for life. We’re not satisfied with just providing products to satisfy creative urges. We want our products to inspire, to excite, to delight. To cause creativity.

In a scary new world of terror and technology, sometimes we forget the wonder of creativity. The joy of a blank page and a box of oil pastels. The feeling when a 2 year old points to a mess of colour to say “It’s you, Daddy!”. The carefully contained pride as a 90 year old reveals her latest oil landscape.

With a computer, everyone can do the same. With a blank canvas and a brush, everyone will create something different, something unique.

As I look forward to the excitement of the future of Micador Group, I think of a name. Michael A. Dortimer. Micador. I know how we got here and I know what we stand for.

It makes where we are going clear.
